Ethno-chic in Moscow apartment

Modern ethnics in the interior of Moscow apartment (designers Irina Markidonova and Ilona Menshakova, Sisters Design)

We present to Your attention the project of interior design of apartment in Moscow by the famous Russian duo – «Systers Design», Irina Markidonova and Ilona Menshakova.

The apartment was designed by Irina and Ilona for a couple, which the designers did several projects before with. Having a property in the counrtyside of Moscow, the owners of apartment supposted to use it a meeting point or reunion-pointwith friends after joint visits to theatres, art galleries and social events. According to the authors of the project, the main requirement of the clients was to open for maximum the place for communication and to make it more comfortable and spacious. For this reason, the lounge area with a fireplace is combined by the designers with both kitchen and dining area, and  the balcony has beentransformed into an additional lounge area. The concept of the interior here is a modern interpretation of ethnics, but ethnic motives are not obvious but veiled and read between the lines: in the art-works, in  the variety of finishes – from bronze to gold and silver, as well as in the shapes of objects.

Color combinations used by the authors to support a given concept: the warm shades of  walls and furniture facades are skillfully mixed with cold smoky-gray upholstery of the soft-groups and the wooden structures to enhance the contrast and play of textures.

The main task in this project was not just to connect pieces of furniture together, but set up a dialogue between them, where custom-made furniture by sketches of designers harmoniously lives with Bazane stool by Christian Liaigre and arm-chairs by J. Robert Scott, and art-pieces bought at antique markets co-exist with hand-knotted Nepal rugs.

A perfect addition to the master-bedroom was the art work of Vladimir Kustov (series “Heaven”) of the Gisich Gallery provided by Fifth Avenue showroom.
